September 2024 It is September and we celebrate those of you who have a Library card and encourage those who don’t, to get a Library card. Have you ever stopped to think how much money you have saved because of your Library card? Just this simple graphic at the top of the page gives a great representation of four things that can be picked up from Marion Public Library. If purchased from an online source or from a local retail establishment, one would pay near $100 for the same entertainment. With the many strains on family budgets, your Library card offers family resources at no cost. Your Library card gives you free access to books, audiobooks, magazines, dvds, newspapers (old and new), study tools, databases, and more. There is no money paid out of your pocket for subscriptions or monthly fees. If you don’t have a computer, printer or internet at home -- you have access at your Library. Our Fall 2024 Adult Lifelong Learning program is just around the corner. Registration starts September 23, with the first class scheduled to start on October 10. We are pleased that our fall offerings continue to provide a varied selection to our adult lifelong learners. For the nature enthusiasts we have: Paw Paws with James Anderson and a chance to get up close with some wild birds with Ohio Bird Sanctuary. Prefer to stay indoors - take an in-depth look at Healthy Living, or explore world religions with comparative examples. Additionally, we are offering two behind the scenes tours: one with a Marion Sheriff, and another with a local funeral home. All aboard to hear from an expert on the CD&M Railroad. Do you remember where you were on May 4, 1970? Learn more about the tragic events that unfolded in Kent, Ohio. You might be interested to learn some mysteries and myths about gin from a local mixologist. This action sets a child up for success in school and life when combined with Let’s Read 20’s reading 20 minutes daily. Don’t forget to add getting registered in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library where a book a month is sent to your child’s mailbox until they turn 5 years of age. There is no age limit on signing up for a card, so we encourage you to share this link - MarionLibrary.org/Library Card with someone who may not have a library card. Encourage them to fill out the form and visit the Library to discover what the most important card in their wallet can do for them.
