May 2023 OUR MISSION: The Marion Public Library enhances the quality of life in our community by encouraging reading and the pursuit of lifelong learning. Click here to place your online reserves Director's Note Gary Branson, Executive Director Robust summer programing is for YOU! Though it is May, you will see we are well into the planning for Summer Reading fun, since it typically starts at the beginning of June. You are the reason we schedule a broad mix of activities and programs to engage the senses and support lifelong learning. Hopefully children are drawn into reading because a program sparked their interest in a certain subject. Your Library is here to help children continue their skills through reading logs and engaging programs. Many times, encouraging the reading of alternative formats such as magazines, journals and various materials can help fulfill goals and spark new interests. The summer learning loss is real for many children who do not read throughout the summer, and for some it is cumulative. That's why the Library is essential as part of a family habit all summer long. An engaging summer for your child starts at Marion Public Library. It's membership time for our BookMarks friends. Thank you to those who became members at our annual Book Sale. A membership with the BookMarks of Marion Public Library begins on May 1 and is good for a year - through April 30. The BookMarks are actively looking for more members, so if you are not a member, please download the membership tri-fold and return it, along with payment to the BookMarks address on the form. Consider sharing a membership form with your neighbor or friend as well. All proceeds to the BookMarks benefit the programs and services of Marion Public Library. Why should you become a member? New LR20 book walk planned/installed by OSUM students. May 1 ribbon cutting marked the opening of the newest book along the Marion Tallgrass Trail. This bilingual book, Our Town, was the class project for Dr. Nikole Patson's OSUM Language Development students. From selecting the book to preparing it for posting and then physically putting up each page spreads into the stanchions, the class At each stanchion readers are encouraged to scan the QR code to see/hear a video of the book spread being read in both English and Spanish.
